Tailor to a famous roster of figures from President John F. Kennedy to basketball great Wilt Chamberlain, Chipp gained a reputation for catering to clients with discerning tastes. The company was responsible for popularizing the preppy clothing canon with innovations like patch madras pants and embroidered corduroys.
Chipp closed shop in the early 1980s, but the Chipp name and ethos live on through a custom tailoring atelier called Winston Tailors, a range of ties created by Winston, known as Chipp Neckwear, and a new company dedicated to novelty undergarments called Chipp Boxers.
